Despre proiect
The project Inclusion through tolerance, playing and art! aims at developing the concept of school inclusion through the encouragement of Rroma children to participate in education, with the support of parents and teachers. The lower and lower disponible of students to feel interested in actively participating in all the activities has become a real problem. The visible elements of this phenomenon are the absenteeism, early school leaving, poor results during the school year and in the final examinations. The formation needs of the teachers in the five partner schools are linked to the deficient adaptation of the didactical pursuit to the psycho-social particularities of the students, in order to manage the situation of those particular students in-risk of early school leaving and to minimize the rate of school abandonment and illiteracy.
The school involved in the project are from both rural and urban areas. They have a common trait: a great number of Rroma students, whose families form a minority ethnic group, young and extremely poor, who is confronted with exclusion from the work and services market. Thus, the main difficulties they face are the following: lack of knowledge and experience regarding intercultural education and its exploitation in terms of diversity as a resource for schools; the lack of resources to enable quality programmes and actions to support minorities and specifically the Rroma community; the prejudice and mutual mistrust between schools and Rroma communities lead to consider school as a „foreign territory” which is neither familiar nor triable. These schools also have a weak relationship with the Rroma parents which has a direct negative effect upon the parents’ perception over school, as negative as the lack of information about the opportunities and advantages of a proper, continuous education for their children.
These objectives will be achieved through the following activities:
1. Training activities for teachers who work with Rroma students on the topics of: Inclusive education, The teacher – agent of change, as well as workshops in order to frame intellectual outcomes (School Decided Curriculum - DIVERSITY, SOURCE AND RESOURCE, KINDERGARTEN FOR ALL, INCLUSION THROUGH TOLERANCE, PLAYING AND ART and innovative materials – workbooks for pre-school pupils, FRINDS... IN THE KINDERGAREN FOR ALL!, and for primary school pupils - LITTLE, BUT TOLERANT!, respectively a good practice guide, DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT STRATEGY );
2. Learning and conscienting activities organized for the Rroma and non-Rroma parents together -FAMILY SCHOOL.
3. Conscienting activities regarding social inclusion, organised for the Rroma and non-Rroma students together - WEEK-END CAMP – EDUCATION THROUGH PLAYING AND ART – organised in 4 series, for pre-primary, primary and elementary level.
The impact of the project, correlated with the objectives and the identified needs, consists of positive changes on different levels:
- direct beneficiaries (participants): enhancing personal and professional competences of teachers and personal attitude towards the social inclusion of Rroma and non-Rroma students/parents;
- indirect beneficiaries (the other students, teachers and parents): arousal of motivation to be involved in activities and change in attitude, an aspect which will be observed with questionnaires applied to students, a better participation in school (statisitics), enhanced social abilities and better school results (statistics);
- organizations: Neamt County School Inspectorate and partner schools: enhancing the capacity to generate changes regarding inclusion, avoiding stigma through interaction and co-operation between the Rroma and the non-Rroma, adapting curricula to overview the cultural contexts of the Rroma communities and using the relevant learning materials to the needs of the Rroma students;
- communities: a larger view/synergy, more and efficient activities for the benefit of local communities; enhancing the image of the schools and of Neamt County School Inspectorate, as representative institution for the Neamt school within the community, changing the negative image the Rroma have through intensifying the interactions between rroma and non-rroma in order to obtain a better mutual understanding.
We desire to have MOTIVATED STUDENTS who have a common passion for study, perseverance, curiosity, will, as well as suitable mentors, COMPETENT TEACHERS, with vocation, self-generosity, VISIONARY MANAGERS who sustain the educative results of their students.
